A pulmonologist is the doctor you want to treat your issue if it has to do with the lungs or any other portion of the respiratory system, from the windpipe to the lungs. Internal medicine includes the medical specialty of pulmonary medicine. These medical professionals have internist-level training. After receiving their degree, they undergo an internal medicine residency, after which they work for a number of years as fellows, frequently with a concentration on pulmonology but sometimes on critical care and sleep medicine.
